Multi-Task

Guest post written by my buddy Aldo Mays

The internet is perhaps the greatest invention of all time. You can search thousands of websites in the blink of an eye with clear wimax and DirecTV. This is very helpful when I am working on my homework. I need a little distraction when I’m working on a paper or project. Just a little something that I can do during breaks to keep my sanity and keep my brain from frying over the homework assignment. It is great when I don’t even have to leave the computer to find a little distraction because if I leave to go watch television or go outside the likelihood of me coming back is very slim.

I usually have several pages up and running. I will have a couple for the project that I am working on and I will also have my word program running to take notes or begin writing a paper. One of the other sites I will have up will be some type of social networking site so I feel like I am keeping in touch with reality. The final site I will have up will be one that plays music. I am a big fan of country music and it help calms me down when I’m having a hard time on a project and keep me sane when I’ve been working on it for hours. I love the ability to multi-task that the internet allows me and as such it’s the best place to get homework done.

Give Back; Support a Charity

Tags: , , , ,

Recently, I came across a website called “DareDealer”; a place to support your favorite charity by doing everything from making funny stunt vidoes to athletic feats of strength and endurance. They also dare people to involve themselves in public embarrassment. You can pledge a few bucks to show your support or, if you’re feeling up to the challenge, you can do a stunt yourself! You should really check out their charity videos when you get a chance!

Besides this Charitable Organization, there are millions of Charities worldwide who need your time, money, prayer and support. When chosing a Charity to donate to or volunteer for, first ask yourself these simple, honest questions:

1. Does your charity clearly communicate who they are and what they do?
2. Does your charity define their short-term and long-term goals?
3. Does your charity share the progress it’s made (or is making) toward a goal?
4. Does your charity’s program make sense to you; do you understand what they are doing?
5. Can you trust your charity; it is reliable?
6. Are you willing to make a long-term commitment to this charity/organization?

Also,
-Give to Charity groups that you know; make sure they are legitimate
-Make sure your Charity gift/s are tax-deductible
-Ask questions; make sure there are no extra charges/fees to be a supporting member
-Think twice before giving to a universities or hospitals
-Volunteer to find out even more about your Charity of choice
-Protect yourself; don’t give out credit card numbers or personal information

Internet and the Rural Community

Living in a small town in Oklahoma I know what it’s like to feel lonely and deserted sometimes. Yes, we have a Wal-Mart, Kmart, Chili’s and Garfields, and an itsy bitsy thing they call a mall, but honestly it’s nothing compared to the big cities who have everything. We don’t have a Target, a Big Mall, or very many resteraunts to choose from. We have to drive 30-45 minutes away to find the best stores and the top brands. Name brands aren’t always a necessity, but on some things you really want the top brands.

One way I have found my sanity it through the internet. I get on the computer daily to check my e-mail, talk with friends on facebook, upload and edit photos, sell things on Ebay, etc. But one thing I love most about the internet is shopping. Since our town doesn’t have a lot to offer, I know I can always find it online and have it shipped straight to my door!

Now my town is not the smallest in these parts, by any means, but there are some really rural areas around here. I know some of these rural communities have to have to depend on a satellite internet service. There is hope for all thoes people who feel abandoned in the country with nothing but pastures and the wide open. I know I would be lost without my internet connection. Seriously, our computer was in the shop a week or so back and I thought I was going to go insane. Now days almost everyone relies on their computer and their internet service.

Compare Prices before Buying

The internet has made things so much easier for us these days. Decades ago, when shopping for expensive items, like Laptops, cars, TVs, cameras, baby strollers/Pushchairs, etc. It took several days to go store to store trying to find the best deal. But now, sites like Save Buckets make is even easier. It is possible to find quality merchandise at a low cost!

Price Comparison sites like this one do the shopping for you! They search sites across town, across the country, or even across the globe! Comparison-Shopping websites take all of the “work” out of it for you! No more store to store shopping, wasting gas, time and energy. And is just not the big items that I’m talking about. You can shop for Baby, Body Care, Books, Clothes, Electronics, Food, Gifts, Health, Home, Music, School, Sports, Tickets, Travel, Videos. Seriously, you name it, you can find it!

Comparison Shopping sites clearly go beyond comparing prices. The find the BEST quality items for the LEAST amount of money. This is one of the reasons that Price Comparison Shopping has become an industry of its own. They are similer to a typical search engine, where you can search for a particular item and the website will provide items related to your interests. You can compare almost anything like brands, styles, colors and prices.

Online merchants are actually competing to give you the lowest price at the highest quality. Who wouldn’t want that; someone fighting over us? So next time you shop, not only for those small items, but also for those big ones, like Cars and TV’s, visit a Price Comparison site like the one mentioned above. I know I’ve greatly benefited from Comparison Shopping. I promise you won’t regret it and your wallet will definitely thank you!

Benefits of Social Networking

What is Social Networking?

According to Wikipedia, “A social network service focuses on the building and reflecting of social networks or social relations among people, e.g., who share interests and/or activities. A social network service essentially consists of a representation of each user (often a profile), his/her social links, and a variety of additional services. Most social network services are web based and provides means for users to interact over the internet, such as e-mail and instant messaging. Although online community services are sometimes considered as a social network service in a broader sense, social network service usually means an individual-centered service whereas online community services are group-centered.”

Becoming Socially Networked has completely changed not only America, but the world; And I think for the better. Here are some amazing reasons why I think Social Networking is important.

1.) Connect with a Community of Friends and Family
2.) Find old Friends and Family & catch up by Chating
3.) Share (photos, music, videos, articles) with a Community of Friends and Family
4.) Gain Knowledge on Certian Products, Brands or Businesses
5.) Create an Identity for Yourself
6.) Generate Traffic to your website and others through links
7.) Increase Revenue for those who have something to sell.
8.) Make Business Contacts and gain trusted relationship
9.) Give & Get Advice on certain topics
10.) Feel like you Belong and are Accepted

If you don’t fully agree with any of the reasons above on Social Networking, you can at least say you agree with #11.) You’ve been Entertained!

Purchase Website Domains

Don’t underestimate the power of a domain name when you are learning to develop an identity on the web. Most of the time people make a huge impression by naming their domain after what their website is actually about. If you have a name that is easy to remember, easy to pronounce and named after exactly what they are looking for, chances are you will have great success and people will return time after time.

So how do you go about choosing a website domain? How do you pick one that will bring in a lot of visitors? Well like I said before, the name is everything! This isn’t something you can just think up overnight, this takes time and a lot of thought about what is most ideal for your situation. What is your main objective? Are you trying to sell something? Are you trying to shine the light on a certain topic? Are you just blogging/journaling about anything and everything? Maybe you’re a photograper or a painter.

Well, no matter what it is you are trying to offer, your main objective should be to provide an suitable representation of your website. Before you choose the name, you need to know exactly what your purpose is. So first, have a solid plan for your website and that will help you pick the best name for your domain.

Remember though, no matter what your intention is, the name you decide on should be engaging and memorable. Memory is a significant aspect of a domain’s ability in target visitors and bring in traffic. If you have a name that is easy to remember, most likely, you will get a constant flow of customers, especially if you are selling something. And constant flow means constant revenue and sales! Also remember to an use and memorable spelling of the name. You don’t want search engines pulling up completely different sites, instead of yours, just becuase you were trying to be witty.

And lastly, you need to choose a suitable domain registrar like Active-Registrar to ensure that your registration facts and personal information are carefully regarded. Once you’ve establised a catchy domain name and a dependable registrar, your website registration will be simple. Now you will be well on your way to great success!
